Use in hanging baskets, window boxes, landscaping and combination planters. The supertunia royal magenta petunia works well as a trailing petunia plant in containers and window boxes, while also serving as a vibrant petunia ground cover plant in landscape beds. The bold magenta petunia flowers provide continuous color from spring through fall.

    Maintenance Notes:

Supertunia® petunia plants are easy to grow and will flower non-stop from planting to hard frost if simple maintenance tasks are performed. Growing Supertunias in full sun to part sun is important for their strong growth and bloom performance. They do not require deadheading, meaning the removal of spent flowers, to stay in bloom all season.

Petunias thrive with consistent moisture. Do not let them wilt severely before watering again.

Supertunia petunias perform best when fed regularly with Proven Winners plant foods. At planting time, in containers and landscapes, mix Proven Winners Premium Continuous Release Plant Food into the soil, following the rates specified on the packaging. Reapply halfway through the growing season.

Additionally, Supertunias should be fed regularly with Proven Winners Premium Water Soluble Plant Food according to the rates specified on the packaging. For Supertunias growing in containers, feed every third time you water or at least once per week. For Supertunias growing in the ground, feed once every one to two weeks.

If you have been feeding your petunias regularly and they are getting enough sun and water but are not blooming, you may be dealing with petunia budworm. Learn more about this petunia pest.

By midsummer, it will be time to trim up your Supertunias. Trim the longest stems, bringing them in line with the others, taking care not to remove more than 20% of the plant. Trimming petunias in the landscape is not usually necessary but cutting them back by 20% can make the plants fuller. Follow up by feeding them with water soluble plant food to promote fresh new growth and blooms.

    • This is my all time FAVORITE Supertunia. I have grown it every year for 4 years. The color is stunning. I grow it paired with other Supertunias, but I always do at least one pot with just these magenta supertunias because a potfull is so pretty! They are a little harder to find in my local nurseries, so I drive every year to a grower 60 miles south of me just for this color!

    • I have been growing Royal Magenta’s in a 5ft tall 18” basket and they trail to within 6 in of the ground with full 360deg coverage. Full sun. People from several neighborhoods come to see them. Going to double my planters this year.

    • I planted two of the Royal Magenta petunias in a 12" hanging pot in a sunny spot. I watered and fertilized regularly. They started out nice, but by mid-August were looking leggy and ugly. I hadn't trimmed them because they weren't particularly long, not even covering the sides of the basket, but I gave them a 'haircut'. It didn't help; the plants continued to deteriorate. I didn't see any bugs, so I don't know what the problem was. I have grown supertunias before, generally with good results, so these were disappointing. I won't be growing Royal Magenta again.

    • I had used Royal Velvet in 2021 and wanted to try Royal Magenta this season. I mixed the two with Supertunia Honey and. Pinpoint Blue false cypress in the urns flanking my front porch. I was very impressed and will be using Royal Magenta again. Loved the vibrant softness of the flowers and it intermingled wonderfully with the other plants. Two thumbs up!
