    • Purchased two from a local native garden center in April. They were healthy, high-quality, and did well during the growing season - no issues there, but the growth is slow compared to my other redbuds. However, the dark purple leaves on both specimens (one planted in full sun, one in part shade) started turning green in May/June and are now fully green as of September - there is no purple color at all. Quite dissatisfied and plan to move the trees to see if that changes anything. This hasn't happened with other purple-leafed cultivars I've planted. Perhaps the soil composition changed the leaf color, but I am doubtful given my other purple-leafed cultivars have consistently retained their color. Go with Forest Pansy, Merlot, or Ruby Falls (weeping) from Monrovia if you want purple leaves all year. Hope this helps. Happy gardening!
