Best in moist soils. May be trimmed in early spring.

    Great for rain gardens!

Buttonbush has long been prized as a native, but it was way too big for most landscapes. Not anymore! We've cut the size in half and added colorful red winter fruit and glossy burgundy fall foliage. Add in cool looking, fragrant white flowers and you've got a delightful plant that shines from spring to fall.

It is easily grown in moist humus soils in full sun to part shade. Sugar Shack attracts a variety of pollinators and was selected as a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society 2024 Gold Medeal Plant Winner.

    • This shrub is absolutely lovely, the description is very accurate. I purchased on online from Proven Winners about 3 years ago. It is flourishing in an area of the yard where the soil remains wet during the winter and sometimes has standing water for several days. Despite the 95F+ temps and beastly heat this summer it is still beautiful. The shrub has a nicely rounded shape and has never burned when the big canine boys relieve themselves on it.
